History

The Newbury Flute Choirs formed in September 2008. Currently there are thirteen members in the senior flute choir (required standard is grade 5 to grade 8+) and 10 members in the junior flute choir (required standard is grade 1 to grade 4). We frequently have a small string section (comprising of 2 violins, viola, cello, acoustic guitar and piano) to accompany both flute choirs for concerts.

The Newbury Flute Choirs debut concert was held on 13th December 2008, in which both choirs performed on their own and combined, to an audience of 100. This first public performance proved to be a great success and was extremely well received by all who attended including the arts critic from the Newbury Weekly News 'it was a considerable achievement to produce flute playing of this quality and consistency after just three and a half months' - Derek Ansell NWN.
